Frequently Asked Questions About the Online MS in Computer and Information Science

What are the admissions requirements for the program?

To be considered for admission to the online Master of Science in Computer and Information Science, you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Have a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better
  • Provide two academic and/or professional recommendations
  • Have a background, through academic courses or demonstrated work experience, with data structures, databases and object-oriented programming languages.

Work experience in the field is preferred. You may also be required to interview with the Program Director.

Are there any residency requirements?

No. The program takes place entirely online.

Can I transfer credits?

You may transfer a maximum of six semester units of graduate credits from other accredited institutions at the discretion of the department chair. You must have earned a 3.0 or higher in those courses.

How long will it take me to complete the program?

If you take one course at a time each eight-week term, you can complete the program in two years.

It looks like teamwork is an important component of the program. How will I work with my classmates in an online course?

As an online student at NDNU, you will have access to a user-friendly online/ e-learning system where you’ll use online discussion forums, wiki, and chat. Additionally, you will interact with other students and your instructor through communication and collaboration tools including, but not limited to, Skype, GoogleTalk, iChat, etc. You will have plenty of tools at your fingertips, and in fact we strongly encourage a lot of interaction, which results in a richer learning experience.
